To me it looks like there's a problem with the quotation of the path, so making sure the ssh.exe is installed in a path without spaces might help. –user1338062 May 20 TLDR: if you get this error, remove a bunch of your tags. You've successfully authenticated, but GitHub does not provide shell access. Where are the oil platforms in Google Earth? The problem was the space in the GIT_SSH environment variable pointing to TortoisePlink.exe.

What ended up fixing this issue for me was removing quotes from my GIT_SSH variable and don't escape any characters at all, no MSYS path style (eg. /c/path\ to\ putty/plink.exe). This problem affected many users across many Git branches. Also this is all on a windows 7 machine running mysysgit (184.108.40.206) and using git bash.
