Error Cannot Obtain Value .net

Once I switched back to Debug my variable showed in the watch again. Cannot obtain value of local or argument as it is not available at this instruction pointer, possibly because it has been optimized away. As I mentioned, with ByRef, the Structure is 'boxed' and the reference passed . But when I arrived PrintIDCard function it said: TreePStu1.nodes.count - Expression cannot be evaluated at this time. his comment is here

Apart from this, you should get a StackOverflowException. Similarly, when a Structure is passed back from a Function, another copy takes place. Keep it ByRef and you will probably stay clear of trouble. I assign this TreeView value to another TreeView (this one is declare in code.) And this second TreeView also can't view Watch. http://stackoverflow.com/questions/8311303/cannot-obtain-value-of-local-or-argument-as-it-is-not-available-at-this-instruct

Changing UnmanagedStruct to a managed struct by adding the ref keyword allows you to see the numerical value for the enumeration type. You should reserve ByRef parameters for when you actually need to modify the caller's variable, not as an optimization technique. By right, I can get the value of each view.

Also, set the "Debug Info" dropdown to "Full" in the Advanced Options (Under Build tab).
